Workday at FMA - Thanks, Big Green Bus students!

The Big Green Bus kids from Dartmouth College came by on Saturday to help spread compost in the habitat garden space and the vegetable beds, as well as the Squirrel Brand plots. They worked hard and got it all off the sidewalk, and the garden is looking great because if it. Makes you want to be a worm. Planting the habitat area will happen sometime in May.

(Btw, they drive a green bus, and it runs on used vegetable oil. Hence the name.)

April 12th started a week of planting with classes. I got gardening help from K-4th graders, mostly at the Squirrel Brand plot. Here's what we did. The FMA schoolyard garden planting comes next week, during April Break.

My name is Alice. This is my first year working with CitySprouts as a garden coordinator, and I'm excited. After seemingly weeks of downpours and cold weather, it's Easter weekend and spring might finally be here. The weather for the next few days will be almost hot, and our neighborhood gardeners gearing up for prepping their plots for planting.

I'll be looking after three school gardens this year: Fletcher-Maynard Academy, King Open, and the brand-new one at Cambridgeport. In addition, I've got my own Squirrel Brand plot, maybe the Margaret Fuller House plot, as well as building my own little bed in our new backyard. Lots of work ahead.
